My Tour to Maldives
Maldives is a gorgeous country which is based on various islands. Maldives is the beloved vacation spot for tourists from all around the world. It’s capital is Male which is itself an island. The nearest airports to Male are either Colombo or India. As my home country is Pakistan so I had two options to reach Maldives, either through India or through Sri Lanka. Flights for Male are also available from Gulf countries.
As a tourist, I’ll suggest that you should combine Maldives with your tour to Sri Lanka. According to my experience it was very economical to combine the tour of both countries. The flight takes 1.5 hour to reach Male from Colombo.
Male’s airport is based on a different island. After landing on airport and immigration process you come out of the air port. From the airport you have to hire a boat to reach Male. It take 15 minutes to reach Male from airport. You can see this airport from Male.
You can visit the complete Male city either by walk or you can hire a rikshaw. I’ll suggest that you should visit Male by walk. You can easily make a tour of Male city in 3-4 hours. If you spent two days in Male then it’s more than enough.
There are many islands around Male. Travel guides in Male or even those in Colombo can easily guide you about visiting those islands. To visit any of these islands firstly you have to decide that which is the island that you want to visit. Second step is to reserve a resort on that island. Unlike Male, where you have multiple options to stay, all other islands only have a single resort available on each island.
So, you don’t have a choice to choose from. These resorts are on full board base. Full board means that the package includes accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner. The price of these resorts vary from $100 per person per day to $500 per person per day.
Most of the resorts which are close to Male provide pick and drop to Male airport. But if it is not so then you;ll have to make arrangements by yourself.
On the northern side of Male there is a road which encircles Male from all around. If you see around the sea from that road then you’ll notice Triangular structures of concrete all around the shore. Basically these triangle keep Male safe from sea water. It was designed by the joint venture of Maldives and Japan. These structures are very beautifully integrated into each other.
Historical Buildings in Male
Some worth seeing tourist spots in Male are Islamic Centre, a Friday Mosque also known as Hukuru Miskiy. Near to this Mosque there is a white minaret which was built by Sultan Ibrahim in 1675 and Azaan for prayer was called from the top of this tower. In local language they call it Minaru.
Near to this tower there is another tourist attraction known as Meedhoo Ziarah. Basically it’s the tomb of Abu Barkat Yousaf who came from North Africa to Maldives in 1153. Many people visit his tomb and witness it’s beauty.
The presidential palace is also located in Male. It’s official name is Mulee’aage.
It’s the point from where boats leave for airport and other islands. Near to harbor there is a park known as Sultan Park. Here you can spent some relaxing time in evening.
On the other side of Male there is a fish market where you can easily buy seafood. But according to me the good thing about this market is that if you visit this place in morning then you can have some very nice views. You can see the unloading of seafood from boats, bringing them into market and watch other trading activities in Male.
This is another island which is close to Male. The point where boat from airport drops you at Male, from that point Viligili beach will be at you right hand side. From south of Male you can get a boat for Viligili. The speciality about Viligili are it’s beaches. There are also some historical buildings of Portuguese era.
The island that i choose for my vacation was Rannalhi. I booked a resort there. When I landed on the Male airport the boat service of resort was there to pick me. It took about 45 minutes to reach at Rannalhi island.
There was only one resort on island, as I have mentioned earlier. There very many facilities like gymnasium, swimming area etc and all these were free of charges.
The scenery on the island was very beautiful. It felt as I was cut away from the world. The moments of sunrise and sunset cannot be explained in words. There were facilities to play sports like volleyball and horse riding. Another famous activity on such islands was scuba diving. They provide you with all the equipment for diving.
The water was so clean and transparent that the fish of various color and plants in the sea were easily visible. Many resorts on various islands arrange special tours to nearby islands for fishing or other activities but they charge separately for that service.
If you have choose an island which is far away from Male then traveling by fairy will consume a lot of time. So in such cases the preferred mean of transport is a hydroplane. They take off and land on the surface of water. In this way you can save a lot of your time.
